With a famous free jazz soundtrack by Chet Baker, Night of Lust (1962) is a severely edited and spiced-up version of the French crime drama Le Concerto de la peur. It’s a story of a gang war between two rival drug pushers. Along the way, we get a good look at some black-and-white rackage from an unconscious Yvonne Monlaur.

the cover art of this dvd, suitably awash in shocking pink with the seductive tagline “BANNED over half the world,” is lacking another disclaimer, less sensational yet equally important: “Bob Cresse presents.” Notorious smut peddler, actor, and sleaze producer Cresse reportedly stole a print of José Bénazéraf’s 1962 film Le Concerto de la peur and retooled it for an audience of American horndogs. He re-edited the film to include additional striptease footage, thereby upping the original’s already high ratio of boobs per minute. Even without Cresse’s handiwork, Le Concerto has its own attractions—a cast that includes Jean-Pierre Kalfon and Hans Verner, a score by Chet Baker, and some truly bizarre camerawork—but it’s probably nowhere near as much fun as Cresse’s re-cut. Either way, the hilariously atrocious overdubbing turns Bénazéraf’s unusually shot sexploitation flick into a lively 56 minutes.
