Bill and Dennis McCabe are the sons of a man who was once both a top major league baseball player and a radical activist who allegedly bombed the pentagon and killed innocent civilians. Having come of age in the wake of all this, the brothers have grown in different directions. Bill, the elder of the two, has drifted into a career of elaborate fraud and outright crime, while his little brother, Dennis, has grown into a handsome, but clumsy college philosophy major intent on discovering the truth about his father, who remains missing after over twenty years. Nevertheless, after one of Bill's crimes goes horribly wrong, he teams up with Dennis and flees New York, winding up in a small town on eastern Long Island. There, this lonely confidence man confronts both his father's legacy as well as his own deepest hopes and fears in the presence of a strong and beautiful woman he suspects might be able to call his bluff.
