Microcinema International’s international touring film festival, Independent Exposure, is currently in its eleventh year. The 2006 Animation program contains an assorted collection of innovative moving image artists who are pioneering the development of new and exciting ways of approaching animation. Artists featured in this program are from a variety of different countries, some of which include Bulgaria, Australia and Germany.
The program includes shorts by Signe Baumane and Joanna Priestley whose works are sold in our online DVD store. In addition to these artists Federico Solmi’s animations and drawings have been shown at the Drawing Center in New York, as well as around the world. His short featured here, “Rocco Never Dies” was also featured at the last Impakt Film Festival. In contrast to moving image artists with a long experience in animation, this program also presents lesser known animators and ones just at the beginning of their careers, like “Space Travel” by Steven Lall, an excellent animation which is Lall’s second short.

We often search for beauty in the most peculiar places. Our perceptions of what is actually aesthetically pleasing are formed by our cultural surroundings. If I were to accept America's mainstream definition of beauty, I would have to compromise my soul. Therefore, I have attempted to sway my thoughts to a place that opposes the status quo. And I continually question, what is the true meaning of an elegant disposition when I find beauty in nearly everything I see?
Through a lengthy process of experimentation, I have attempted to transform mundane imagery into a lyrical fluidity which tries to exist in the same realms as music.

What would you do if you woke up one day and you were invisible? That was the first question I asked actress Sarah Anthony in an interview that became the voice over for this film. Look For Me is a film about desire, and the reality of that desire. Told using handmade patterns and digital animation, Look For Me follows an invisible woman for a day as she learns what it’s really like to wander around unseen.

Rocco Never Dies directed by

Magnetic Monaural,

“Rocco Never Dies” is a drawing animation based on the XXX movie of Italian porn superstar Rocco Siffredi. It is a documentary of the life of one of the greatest Italian icons in U.S. society of all times. In the original movie, Rocco Siffredi plays the role of a special agent, a kind of a hardcore version of James Bond. In his great efforts to save the world from a nuclear terrorist attack, Rocco Siffredi is running into a lot of dangerous adventures, and of course gorgeous sex performances, but all for one goal: to save humanity from evil. The animation will take place in this absurd scenario of an imminent world catastrophe in which Rocco, during his call for duty, will discover to be mortal. In fact, during the filming of his masterpiece Rocco Never Dies, Rocco Siffredi will have a heart attack while he is performing in a gang bang. After a desperate attempt to rescue him, following a crazy drive in an ambulance through the streets of New York City, Rocco will die at Beth Israel Hospital, at the age of 37. He will be acclaimed by the public as a war hero and given a State Funeral. “Rocco Never Dies” is a celebration of the absurdity and triumphs of the contradictions in today life, but it is also a romantic story about a man of strength, who came from a small town to conquest the glory of life with a tremendous work.
