Surrealism emerged as a new artistic style between World War I & II and now, for the first time, you will be able to see it as never seen before. Inspired by the great era of Surrealism, we have made four different works that will enable you to transform your flat LCD- or Plasma-screen into an aesthetic canvas with Surrealist motifs in motion. Marvel at how some churches lift into the sky and at a castle that hovers in the air. Be intrigued by how the daylight shifts in an empty room and at the stare of an eye in our desert dream.

Room with a View directed by
Jonathan
Knape
Sweden,
Ambient,
2008,
00:10:25
In this work we have set-up a room with some objects that we have paraphrased from Rene Magritte. The idea with a painting within a painting is not new and could be seen already in early Dutch 14th century art, but Magritte used it to make us aware of indoor and outdoor spaces, which met in his paintings, see for example The Human Condition II from 1935. However, in our work, a flat-screen TV has replaced Magritte's easel.
Rather than a window we wanted the room to contain a door and thus were inspired by Magritte's Poison from 1939. The coffin on the sofa was borrowed from Magritte's Perspective: Madame Recamier by David 1949, but in our version the coffin is wrapped in a flag and is also watching TV.

This Castle is not Located in the Pyrenees directed by
Jonathan
Knape
Sweden,
Ambient,

The painting Castle in the Pyrenees 1959 by Magritte has obviously been an inspiration for us in the creation of this work. Magritte gave the title as a play on the French expression "Châteaux en Espagne" - equivalent to castle in the air. However, in our version the castle is a bit enlarged with various objects moving within the setting.

Prairie Serenades directed by
Jonathan
Knape
Sweden,
Ambient,
2008,

In Magritte's work Voice of the Winds from 1928, three iron bells hover above the ground symbolizing the sound of the wind. In our work there are three wooden churches on a prairie that slowly lift off the ground and disintegrate whilst being replaced by steel flowers that shoot out from the ground.

Persistence of the Watchful Eye directed by
Jonathan
Knape
Sweden,
Ambient,
2008,

In this work, we have used Salvador Dali and his painting Persistence of Memory from 1931 as inspiration. However, the only object that we actually have paraphrased from this painting is the idea with a melting object. Whereas Dali used a melting watch, we have created a moving, melting quarter dollar coin.
The idea with an eye in the scene was borrowed from Salvador Dali and his preparatory work for the stage designs used for the dream sequence in Alfred Hitchcock's movie Spellbound from 1945.
